Baby Clinic and Child Health

As your family doctors we like to provide comprehensive care for the whole family, including young children. Locally held clinics are available throughout the Wigan Borough for monitoring your baby’s weight. A health visitor is in attendance at these clinics to promote, advise and support parents with any health issues or concerns.

We offer developmental assessments to babies of 6 to 8 weeks to check for age appropriate growth and development.

The practice provides a full immunisation services and it is important that all pre-school children are fully immunised and with this aim, we provide a special Immunisation Clinic. If you have any worries about immunisation, speak to your doctor, nurse or health visitor rather than denying your child valuable protection.

Cervical Smears

Routine smear testing is currently advised every 3 years for women between the ages of 25 and 50, and then every 5 years up to the age of 64. If women have had an abnormal smear in the past they may need them more regularly then this or have to continue smears after 64.

Women are invited to attend for a smear test by letter when their smear is due. Please attend for cervical smears when invited as they can pick up early changes and may prevent cervical cancer. For a smear make an appointment with the practice nurse or GP.

We would like to stress the importance of women attending for smear tests when called to do so.

Childhood Immunisations

We provide a full range of immunisations. It is important that children are fully immunised, and with this aim we provide a special immunisation clinic. If you have worries about immunisation please speak to your doctor, nurse or health visitor rather than deny your child valuable protection.
